Founder's Muse November 2017

Welcome to November's Founder's Muse this month's focus is on Leadership.

Leadership check List

These are the check points you should look for when selecting the leader you are choosing to follow. Also when you are following a leader you should be constantly referring back to this check list .

1.  Mental Health

Do they regularly eat healthy?

Do they regularly exercise?

Do they regularly seek correct counselling?

Do they have any hidden agendas that they are not willing to admit?

2. Do you feel you are growing?

Check where you were last year compared to where you are now honestly evaluate whether this was contributory to your own efforts or do you feel that your leader has unjustly suppressed you in some way?

3. Do you feel inspired when you are around them or feel more deflated than anything?

4. Do you feel you can practically put into action what they have taught you?

Have you tried it? Did it work?

5 Do they point you to Christ?

6 How do they speak about themselves and their relationship with Christ?

Is there humility and reverence for Christ or do they see themselves on the same level as Christ and equal to Christ?

Do they spend time in the word?

Check their dialogue

7 What has been their track record for mentoring people?

(Whom has been mentored by them?)

listen to and research what others say about their  experiences with them?

Get a consensus of opinion.

8 How do they manage their finances?

Do they willingly and openly show you their Financial Accounts, if they are a Ministry, and you donate regularly?

9. Is there  evidence to back up what they are saying ?

What are their sermons about?

10 Who are their friends?

Do you see any similarities between them and their associates? Is there anything unique about them?

11. Are they manipulative?

Do they try to spend a lot of time working you out and trying to please you or do they simply preach the truth?

12. Is there evidence of their credentials?

Assess how long they have been in leadership and ministry to make an accurate evaluation.

Do your research.

Pray about it ask God.

13. Are they seriously interested in your spiritual growth?

14 Do they try to or appear to be bearing false witness about your character or personality in order to hold you back spiritually?

eg saying you are a drug addict when you know you are not.

15. Does your leader look you in the eye when they are speaking to you?

Do they exhibit honest communication with you about sensitive issues?

( if not this is not your leader or employer)

16. Does your leader 'help you out' secretly without notifying you?

Alarm bells should go off immediately. What they are actually saying is that they are afraid to speak to you face to face and inform you that you have done something wrong.  If they don't correct you  publicly then you are not learning anything.  This type of help is dangerous to a follower as it isn't really helping them, but handicapping them and undermining their confidence as a future leader.   Another format of this is when you have indicated to them methods and ways of contacting you if there are any issues and they blatantly ignore this and then secretly  contact you using their own methods violating your privacy. What we are talking about here is lack of trust and respect.

Join me for November's blog where we take a look at what scripture has to say about Leadership.
